Greenland: Hundreds protest against Trump's takeover plans DW 03/15/2025
Briefly

Hundreds of Greenlanders rallied in Nuuk and other towns to protest against U.S. President Trump's interest in taking control of their island. Demonstrators held signs proclaiming messages about sovereignty and autonomy, led by local political leaders, including Jens-Frederik Nielsen and Mute B. Egede. Nielsen firmly stated their right to remain independent, insisting there would be no discussions about Greenland becoming part of the U.S. Egede described Trump’s approach as "completely unacceptable," amidst the backdrop of Trump's repeated references to the strategic importance of Greenland for U.S. military operations.
"We want to be ourselves, and our autonomy and freedom will never be put up for debate," Nielsen told the Danish Broadcasting Corporation during the rally.
"There is not the slightest chance that I will talk to Trump about Greenland becoming part of the US. Greenland will be Greenland," he said.
Egede called the US president's approach "completely unacceptable."
Trump described the territory as fundamental to US national security, emphasizing that the US already has military bases there.
