GOP Rep. says Bad Bunny show was worse than Janet Jackson wardrobe mishap - LGBTQ Nation
"With no end in sight to the unending right-wing fury over the fact that a Puerto Rican pop star sang in Spanish on TV for 13 minutes, Rep. Mark Alford (R-MO) lent his voice to the outrage machine, declaring on Real America's Voice that he will be speaking with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) about Bad Bunny secretly using "disturbing" lyrics that only Spanish speakers would catch."
""On the Bad Bunny bad performance at the Super Bowl halftime - we're still investigating this. There's a lot of information that has come out about the lyrics," Alford claimed, failing to provide any examples. "I saw the halftime show - we were switching back and forth with the TPUSA halftime show. The lyrics from what we've seen from Bad Bunny are very disturbing.""
""And if it holds true," he continued, as if there is no way to find out what he said in front of millions of people, "I don't speak fluent Spanish, okay, I know how to ask where the bathroom is, but these lyrics, if it is true what was said on national television, we have a lot of questions for the entities that broadcast this, and we'll be talking with Brendan Carr from the FCC about this.""
Rep. Mark Alford said he will speak with the Federal Communications Commission about alleged "disturbing" Spanish-language lyrics in Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime performance. Alford acknowledged limited Spanish ability while asserting that if the lyrics are as reported, they raise questions for the entities that broadcast the show and warrant regulatory scrutiny. Alford signaled contact with FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr and compared the potential fallout to the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction. Social media users criticized lawmakers for focusing on a Spanish-language performance amid other major political and social issues.
