Google Admits to Congress The Biden Admin 'Pressed' YouTube to Censor COVID 'Misinformation'
"Now, YouTube and Google are calling for conservative voices to rejoin if they were booted for violating now-scrapped rules on what users could say about COVID-19 and election integrity. Company attorney Daniel Donovan shared the jarring admission on Tuesday while speaking to the House Judiciary Committee, and later, in a letter to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH). President Biden and his administration, Donovan wrote, created a political atmosphere that sought to influence the actions of platforms based on their concerns regarding misinformation."
"Senior Biden Administration officials, including White House officials, conducted repeated and sustained outreach to Alphabet and pressed the Company regarding certain user-generated content related to the COVID-19 pandemic that did not violate its policies. While the Company continued to develop and enforce its policies independently, Biden Administration officials continued to press the Company to remove non-violative user-generated content."
Google and YouTube admitted that Biden Administration officials pressured the companies to remove content labeled as COVID-19 misinformation. YouTube and Google are requesting reinstatement for conservative voices removed under now-scrapped rules governing COVID-19 and election integrity speech. Company attorney Daniel Donovan told the House Judiciary Committee and wrote to Rep. Jim Jordan that senior White House officials conducted repeated, sustained outreach to Alphabet and pressed the company regarding user-generated COVID-19 content that did not violate policies. Donovan said the administration created a political atmosphere seeking to influence platform actions, and Alphabet called such attempts unacceptable and wrong. Several conservatives, including Steve Bannon and Dan Bongino, were removed under those rules, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg similarly said the administration pushed for more censorship of COVID-19 posts.
