The fundraiser's creators, Mattie Weiss and Becka Tilsen, described Renee as "pure sunshine, pure love", adding that she "will be desperately missed". In less than a day, the petition has received over $1.3million and continues to skyrocket at the time of reporting."
Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother and US citizen, was shot and killed by an ICE agent while in her car during an encounter with ICE officers on East 34th Street and Portland Avenue in Minneapolis on 7 January. Videos circulating on social media appear to show Good attempting to drive away as officers approached, and an agent firing multiple shots as she turned her vehicle. The shooting prompted international condemnation and widespread protests against ICE's tactics during anti-immigration raids. A GoFundMe to support Good's wife and son raised over $1.3 million in less than a day, attracting more than 35,500 donors and messages of international support.
