Gay former FBI official sues Kash Patel & Pam Bondi for Pride flag firing
"I have determined that you exercised poor judgment with an inappropriate display of political signage in your work area."
"under my authority as FBI Director"
"a proud gay man."
David M. Maltinsky, a former FBI intelligence specialist with over 16 years of service, alleges dismissal from the FBI Academy on October 1, 2025, three weeks before his scheduled graduation. He completed 16 of the Academy’s 19-week Basic Field Training Course and passed major legal and physical benchmarks. He was escorted to an executive suite and handed a letter signed by FBI Director Kash Patel removing him 'under my authority as FBI Director' for an 'inappropriate display of political signage' during his prior Los Angeles assignment. He says the only signage displayed was a Progress Pride flag, contends the termination was unconstitutional and politically motivated because he is 'a proud gay man,' and argues the justification was pretextual and discriminatory, noting the bureau allowed Blue Line, Gadsden, and Punisher displays.
