From Minneapolis to L.A., how Renee Good's death reignited calls to abolish ICE
""Look at all the people around you. This is what's going to save us from authoritarianism,""
""I'm a council member, but the government will not save you. It's the people that are standing arm in arm with you that are going to save our families, keep our families whole and repair the harm that the federal government is doing.""
""abolish ICE,""
Hundreds gathered in downtown Los Angeles at La Placita Olvera to protest ongoing immigration raids and marched to the federal detention facility where ICE holds detainees. Labor organizers, clergy leaders and immigrant rights groups including SEIU and CLUE led the march. The demonstration followed the Jan. 7 fatal shooting of Renee Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. L.A. City Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez attended and urged abolishing ICE, stressing that community solidarity will protect families more than government action. Protesters tracked ICE movements despite risks, and demonstrations have continued as raids have roiled multiple cities.
