French President Macron sues right-wing podcaster Candace Owens
Briefly

French President Emmanuel Macron and first lady Brigitte Macron have filed a defamation lawsuit against Candace Owens in Delaware. The lawsuit claims that Owens made numerous false allegations about Brigitte Macron, including that she was born a man and engaged in identity theft. The Macrons assert that after making multiple requests for retractions that were ignored, they felt compelled to take legal action. Owens, known for her commentary and podcast, stated through a spokesperson that she will not back down from the lawsuit, claiming it infringes on her First Amendment rights.
The lawsuit alleges that Owens ignored the Macrons' attempts to set the record straight in favor of mocking them and retaliated when they requested a retraction.
Owens promoted 'outlandish, defamatory, and far-fetched fictions,' including claims that Brigitte Macron stole another person's identity.
Tom Clare, an attorney representing the Macrons, called the suit a 'clear-cut case of defamation,' stating they sought legal recourse after repeated ignored requests for retractions.
The Macrons stated they concluded that referring the matter to a court of law was the only remaining avenue for remedy after their retraction requests were disregarded.
