Florida has reversed a decade-long law allowing undocumented students to access in-state tuition, following the signing of a new immigration bill by Governor Ron DeSantis. Under this new policy, only U.S. citizens or those lawfully present can qualify for in-state rates. Previously, undocumented students could apply for waivers if they attended high school in Florida for three years. This change, part of a broader political movement against undocumented immigration, is emulated in other states like Massachusetts and Texas, following the sentiments of the Trump administration.
"I don't think you should be admitted to college in Florida if you're here illegally," DeSantis said in a press conference.
Only 'citizens of the United States' or those 'lawfully present in the United States' qualify for the in-state tuition under the new policy.
