Federal report reveals the cause of mysterious drone sightings - but major mystery remains
Briefly

In mid-December, federal officials identified several mysterious drone sightings in New Jersey and New York as authorized aircraft but chose not to inform the public. An internal TSA presentation clarified that certain sightings, including those over Somerville and the Salem Nuclear Power Plant, were attributable to optical illusions caused by the authorized aircraft's movements. Sightings perceived as drones were explained as aircraft maneuvering in ways that created a hovering appearance. Additionally, accounts of other sightings were dismissed as aircraft activities related to JFK operations, revealing a lack of transparency regarding airspace activities.
The alignment of the aircraft gave the appearance to observers on the ground of them hovering in formation while they were actually moving directly at the observers.
Those aircraft - a Cessna C150 and UH-60 Black Hawk - would've appeared to hover in the sky to anyone on the ground, according to the feds.
