Don Lemon defies Trump in fiery speech after arrest for broadcasting anti-ICE protest - LGBTQ Nation
""I have spent my entire career covering the news," Lemon said, speaking to reporters in front of a Los Angeles, California federal courthouse with his husband at his side, The Hill reported. "I will not stop now. There is no more important time than right now, this very moment, for a free and independent media that shines a light on the truth and holds those in power accountable.""
"The U.S. Department of Justice charged Lemon under the 1870 Conspiracy Against Rights law, which prohibits intimidating or preventing people from exercising constitutional rights (in this case, the right to worship), and the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act of 1994, which prohibits protestors from blocking the entrances of churches."
"Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche claimed that Lemon was "part of the planning" of the protest."
Don Lemon pledged to continue covering opposition to the Trump administration upon his release from federal custody Friday evening. He spoke to reporters in front of a Los Angeles federal courthouse with his husband at his side. Federal agents arrested Lemon Thursday night in connection with his in-person coverage of a January 18 protest against Immigration and Customs Enforcement that interrupted a Sunday service at Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. The U.S. Department of Justice charged Lemon under the 1870 Conspiracy Against Rights law and the 1994 Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. U.S. District Judge Patricia Donahue ordered his release on no money bond, prohibited contact with witnesses, victims, or defendants, and required permission before leaving the country. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche alleged Lemon was "part of the planning." Lemon said he had not seen the government's filings, and White House Deputy Chief of Staff James Blair claimed a federal grand jury indicted Lemon.
