The adviser alleged that proceeds funded terrorism and traffickers. The US president ordered a total blockade of sanctioned Venezuelan oil tankers and designated the government a terrorist organisation in related messaging. The US has deployed a large military force off Venezuela and conducted strikes on boats it claims were trafficking drugs, killing about 90 people since September. No evidence of drug trafficking has been provided and critics contend the moves aim to control oil and push regime change.
