Dozens of athletic directors will gather in Las Vegas amid frustration after the U.S. House again balked at voting on a bill to grant the NCAA antitrust protections. Athletic directors see two paths to enforce rules and defend them in court: obtain a congressional antitrust exemption or collectively bargain with athletes. Several ADs, including leaders at Boise State and Tennessee, expressed openness to collective bargaining as a responsible alternative if Congress fails to produce a workable solution. The conference will force programs to confront the need for a better plan to restore industry stability and legal defensibility.
