Maj. Gen. Patrick S. Ryder, the Pentagon press secretary, declined to elaborate on the source of Mr. Austin's medical issues, citing patient privacy.
Mr. Austin is at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., General Ryder said.
