"If Canada makes a deal with China, it will immediately be hit with a 100% Tariff against all Canadian goods and products coming into the U.S.A."
"Well, that's OK, that's what you should be doing. I mean, it's a good thing for him to sign a trade deal. If you can get a deal with China, you should do that, right?"
"tariffs as leverage, financial infrastructure as coercion, supply chains as vulnerabilities to be exploited."
The U.S. threatened a 100% tariff on Canadian imports if Canada reaches a trade agreement with China. A social media warning urged Canada not to become a "Drop Off Port" for Chinese goods destined for the U.S. The warning claimed China would "eat Canada alive," destroying businesses, social fabric, and way of life. Canada and China recently agreed to lower trade barriers, cutting some Chinese tariffs on Canadian agricultural products and reducing Canadian tariffs on 49,000 Chinese EVs. The Prime Minister's office did not immediately respond to requests for comment. A Canadian leader warned of a "rupture" in the world order and denounced using tariffs, financial infrastructure, and supply chains as coercive tools. The U.S. previously threatened NATO tariffs, later backing down while agreeing to a Greenland framework and a proposed missile shield arrangement.
