Columbia Settles With Trump Administration
Briefly

Columbia University has reached a $200 million settlement with the federal government, addressing concerns over campus antisemitism and the handling of pro-Palestinian protests. Acting president Claire Shipman stated that the agreement aims to protect the university's values and restore its partnership with the federal government. In addition, Columbia will pay $21 million for investigations by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and implement reforms related to disciplinary processes and oversight of Middle East-focused academic programs. This settlement is expected to restore access to significant federal research funding.
"This agreement marks an important step forward after a period of sustained federal scrutiny and institutional uncertainty. The settlement was carefully crafted to protect the values that define us and allow our essential research partnership with the federal government to get back on track."
"The university will pay out the settlement over three years. The settlement is intended to bring an end to months of scrutiny by the Trump administration and restore hundreds of millions of dollars in frozen federal research funding."
