Trump suggested that without electric vehicle subsidies, "Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa." He implied this when discussing the recent criticisms between himself and Musk.
In response to questions regarding the deportation of Musk, Trump stated, "I don't know. We'll have to take a look," indicating that he was contemplating the seriousness of his comments.
Musk reacted to Trump's remarks on Twitter, saying, "So tempting to escalate this. So, so tempting. But I will refrain for now," suggesting he had thoughts of retaliating but decided against it.
