"no viable plan"
"a political stunt to punish California."
"This action reflects the State's assessment that the federal government is not a reliable, constructive, or trustworthy partner in advancing high-speed rail in California,"
"This project was Severely Overpriced, Overregulated, and NEVER DELIVERED."
California dropped its lawsuit after the U.S. Transportation Department slashed $4 billion in funding for the long-delayed high-speed rail project linking San Francisco and Los Angeles. The federal government judged that the rail authority had "no viable plan" to complete a major Central Valley segment. The rail authority said it will shift focus to other funding sources, seek private investors, and relies on $1 billion annually from the state's cap-and-trade program through 2045. Governor Gavin Newsom called the funding withdrawal "a political stunt to punish California." The authority criticized the federal government as an unreliable partner.
