Brazil's Lula slams Trump, says there is no logic' to US tariff threat
Briefly

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stated that his country will not follow directives from the United States after President Donald Trump threatened to impose 50 percent tariffs. Lula expressed that he found the announcement of tariffs surprising and illogical but does not believe there is a crisis between Brazil and the U.S. He emphasized that Trump was elected to lead the U.S., not to dictate global affairs. Lula highlighted the independence of the Brazilian judiciary, stating that Bolsonaro is being judged for coup-related actions.
For me, it was a surprise, not only the value of that tariff, but also how it was announced, the way it was announced, Lula said.
We cannot have President Trump forgetting that he was elected to govern the US, not to be the emperor of the world.
The judiciary branch of power in Brazil is independent. The president of the republic has no influence whatsoever, Lula said.
Bolsonaro is not being judged personally, but being judged by the acts he tried to organise a coup d'etat.
