Matthew Miller, former State Department spokesman, recently shifted his position regarding Israel's actions in Gaza, conceding that war crimes have undeniably been committed by the Israeli military. This admission stands in stark contrast to his previous statements advocating for Israel's accountability, where he dismissed early accusations of war crimes as premature. Critics often found Miller's demeanor inappropriate given the gravity of the topic, especially in light of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. His more recent comments appear to acknowledge the moral complexities and accountability issues surrounding U.S. foreign policy in the region.
I think it is without a doubt true that Israel has committed war crimes. Israeli soldiers were not being 'held accountable' for their actions.
We have been very clear that we want to see Israel do everything it can to minimize civilian casualties. They need to operate at all times in full compliance with international humanitarian law.
