Barnaby Joyce gives grim warning about working from home
Briefly

Barnaby Joyce warns that working from home could lead to job loss due to the rise of artificial intelligence in the workplace. The Australian Services Union is advocating for a six-month notice requirement before employees can be mandated to return to the office. The proposal includes a presumption in favor of work-from-home requests and stipulates that employers must respond to such requests within 14 days, providing business grounds for any refusals. Joyce criticized the union's proposal for potentially discouraging employment and emphasized the importance of being cautious about remote work's long-term implications on job security due to advances in AI.
"You can't just say you're going to work from home today or you won't have a job."
"It's absurdity," Joyce said. "What you're doing there is encouraging people not to employ people."
"AI is coming into clerical work and remove jobs left, right, and centre. I'd be doing everything in your power to try and keep your jobs because if people can prove they don't need to come to the office, then the office can prove they can be replaced by AI."
