Bally's Bronx casino bid advances. Final approval would mean a big payday for Trump.
"I know what it feels like when our borough is left behind," said Alex Porco, a committee member appointed by state Sen. Nathalia Fernandez, who voted for the project. "This project will finally mean self-sufficiency for the Bronx."
"an economic engine for the Bronx"
"will of the people."
A community advisory panel voted 5-to-1 to approve Bally's $4 billion casino and entertainment project on 16 acres at Ferry Point in the Bronx. The planned development includes 3 million square feet of gaming facilities, a 500-room hotel, and a 2,000-person event center. Bally's projects $1.5 billion in annual economic impact for the Bronx, $1.9 billion for the state, and $357 million in annual state and local taxes. Bally's previously paid the Trump Organization $60 million for the Ferry Point lease and would pay an additional $115 million if the proposal is approved. One committee member opposed the bid citing traffic and air pollution concerns. Yonkers and Queens bids advanced while three Manhattan bids were rejected; approved projects move to the state gaming facility location board for final licensing decisions.
