Ballots Have Been Seized Across the US. No One Knows What Will Happen Next

Authorities seized or demanded ballots from elections in four states so far this year. In January, FBI agents with a warrant raided an election facility in Fulton County, Georgia, and took 600 boxes of 2020 ballots. In March, the Department of Justice obtained ballot images from 2020 in Maricopa County, Arizona, and demanded 2024 election ballots in Wayne County, Michigan, citing alleged fraud from 2020. The pattern also reached local officials, including a California sheriff who obtained a warrant to seize about 650,000 ballots from a statewide redistricting election and announced a recount. Election experts warned that expanding actions could create widespread chaos after the midterms if courts do not scrutinize politically motivated requests.
