Briefly

A new immigration detention center, located in the Everglades, was opened by Florida officials, although no detainees were present initially. Governor Ron DeSantis announced that a security sweep would be conducted to ensure no weapons are stored. He expressed optimism that detainees could be processed as early as Wednesday. The facility is designed with heavy-duty tents and trailers and can accommodate up to 3,000 individuals, including those potentially relocated from local jails. DeSantis stated the site would support national objectives and assist local law enforcement.
"Hopefully by tomorrow," the governor said while touring the detention facility on Tuesday with President Donald Trump and Department of Homeland Security Kristi Noem.
Noem agreed that detainees could start being processed by Wednesday.
The facility, which is built from heavy-duty tents and trailers, will have the ability to process detainees on site, the governor said.
DeSantis has said some of the detainees may be coming from local jails.
