Federal agents blocked people protesting an ICE immigration raid at a licensed cannabis farm near Camarillo, California, on July 10, 2025. The House advanced HR 3486, the Stop Illegal Entry Act, by a 226-197 vote, with 11 Democrats joining Republicans. The Democrats who supported it included Henry Cuellar, Don Davis, Laura Gillen, Jared Golden, Vicente Gonzalez, Adam Gray, Kristen McDonald Rivet, Frank Mrvan, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, Tom Suozzi, and Gabe Vasquez. Introduced by Rep. Stephanie Bice and Sen. Ted Cruz, HR 3486 would increase sentences for undocumented immigrants who repeatedly enter the United States illegally or who enter and then commit a felony. The bill still needs Senate approval and has the support of President Donald Trump. Civil liberties advocates called the measure "dangerously overbroad," "dehumanizing and horrific," and warned it would supercharge deportation efforts, destabilize communities, criminalize immigrants, and divert resources from youth services and prevention programs.
