Maya Hernandez, 20, was arrested after her 1-year-old son died while she allegedly left him and his 2-year-old brother in a hot car for hours. Hernandez had gone to a wellness spa for lip filler treatment. When she returned, the 1-year-old was found unconscious and not breathing, while the 2-year-old appeared lethargic. The younger child had a dangerously high internal temperature. Hernandez had claimed she left the car running with air conditioning on and food for the children. Both boys were taken to the hospital, where the younger child was later pronounced dead.
Maya Hernandez, 20, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and child cruelty after leaving her two young sons alone in a hot car while she received a cosmetic procedure.
Upon returning to her vehicle, Hernandez found her 1-year-old son unconscious, displaying blue discoloration around his lips, and her 2-year-old son lethargic and soaked.
Medical personnel reported that the 1-year-old had an internal body temperature of 107.2 degrees and was pronounced dead about an hour later, despite life-saving measures.
Hernandez claimed she left her sons in car seats with food and her phone for entertainment, and left the car running with the air conditioning on.
