Young Man Allegedly Came From Texas to Kill Sam Altman, Makes Court Appearance on Attempted Murder Charge
"Moreno-Gama is facing multiple charges including attempted murder and attempted arson, and he is accused both of trying to kill Altman as well as a security guard."
"Investigators found a document on Moreno-Gama's person that referred to the 'impending extinction' of humanity, and 'identified views opposed to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the executives of various AI companies.'"
"FBI San Francisco Acting Special Agent in Charge Matt Cobo suggested that the Friday attack was part of a coordinated plan. 'This was not spontaneous. This was planned, targeted and extremely serious,' Cobo said."
Daniel Moreno-Gama, 20, is accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail at Sam Altman's home and making arson threats at OpenAI's headquarters. He faces charges including attempted murder and attempted arson. The FBI executed a search warrant at his Texas home, where they found incendiary devices and a document expressing anti-AI sentiments. Investigators believe the attack was planned, as Moreno-Gama expressed intentions to harm Altman and others at OpenAI. He has also been charged federally for possession of an unregistered firearm and destruction of property using explosives.
