A Maryland judge is investigating whether government officials are acting in bad faith regarding Kilmar Abrego Garcia's case. Abrego Garcia, mistakenly deported to El Salvador, is now in a notorious prison despite having U.S. legal protections. Judge Paula Xinis has initiated expedited discovery, allowing questioning of key officials under oath as part of the process. Xinis emphasized the urgency due to the harm of his extended detention in the prison. Tensions are heightened following a meeting between Salvadoran President Bukele and President Trump, where issues of potential gang affiliations were discussed.
"It is a fact now, of this record: every day he is detained in CECOT is a day of irreparable harm," Xinis said from the bench on Tuesday.
"We have to give process to both sides but we are going to move. No tolerance for gamesmanship and grandstanding," Judge Xinis emphasized.
Lawyers for the Justice Department and those representing Abrego Garcia have one week to conduct depositions of Joseph Mazzara... as well as of acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office director Robert Cerna."},{
