Venus earns first US Open doubles win since '14
Briefly

Venus Williams teamed with Leylah Fernandez to defeat sixth-seeded Lyudmyla Kichenok and Ellen Perez 7-6 (4), 6-3 in US Open women's doubles. Williams celebrated with a twirl-and-wave and praised Fernandez as the best partner she had ever played with outside of Serena. The duo received standing ovations and loud crowd support at Louis Armstrong Stadium, including chants and signs. Williams had not won a women's doubles match in New York since 2014 or at a Grand Slam since 2018. Williams returned to the tour after a 16-month absence and received a doubles wild card at Flushing Meadows.
