Two military jets arrived in Guatemala City carrying deported migrants from Tucson, Arizona, and El Paso, Texas. This follows a recent U.S. executive order enabling military assistance in border security and deportations. Under this agreement, Guatemala will accept deportees transported on U.S. Air Force planes. The acting secretary of defense indicated that more than 5,000 illegal aliens would be deported from the San Diego and El Paso sectors. The U.S. Embassy in Guatemala did not provide details on additional jet transport timelines.
Guatemala is among the first countries to strike an agreement with the U.S. to receive deported citizens via military jets, following a new executive order.
The acting secretary of defense stated that military airplanes will support the Department of Homeland Security in deportation flights for over 5,000 individuals.
