US: Fugitive Brazilian ex-spy chief arrested by ICE
"Alexandre Ramagem was convicted to 16 years in prison for his role in a failed scheme to overturn Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's 2022 election victory over Jair Bolsonaro."
"Brazil's Federal Police said in a statement on Monday that a Brazilian man whose capture was sought by that country's authorities was arrested in Orlando, Florida, by ICE."
"The detention was the result of cooperation between the law enforcement in both countries, Brazil's Federal Police added."
Alexandre Ramagem, a former Brazilian intelligence chief, was detained by US immigration officers in Orlando, Florida. He fled Brazil after being convicted of a coup plot against Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's election victory. Ramagem was sentenced to 16 years in prison but escaped before his arrest. Brazil's Federal Police confirmed his capture, stating it was a result of cooperation between US and Brazilian law enforcement. Brazil formally requested his extradition in December following his conviction by the Supreme Court.
