Trump, El Salvador president say deported Maryland man can't be brought back to US despite Supreme Court ruling: 'Question is preposterous'
Briefly

El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele firmly rejected a suggestion to facilitate the return of Maryland man Kilmar Abrego García, deported under the Trump administration. Despite a Supreme Court ruling advocating for Garcia's return, Bukele claimed he lacked authority to act. He characterized the suggestion as 'preposterous' and expressed indignation over being accused of smuggling. Garcia's case is contentious due to allegations of persecution upon his return, underscored by administrative errors acknowledged by the Justice Department related to his deportation process.
"I hope you are not suggesting that I smuggle terrorists into the United States," Bukele hit back. "Of course, I'm not going to do it. The question is preposterous."
"Abrego Garcia's deportation was due to an 'administrative error' and a 'clerical error,'" Justice Department lawyers admitted in court documents.
"The only mistake that was made is a lawyer put an incorrect line in a legal filing," Stephen Miller stated, defending the administration's actions.
"I don't have the power to return him to the United States," Bukele stated, emphasizing his position during discussions about the deported individual.
