"We have a lot of lavender, you get an opportunity to go to the beach, there's a lot of wineries offered,"
"Scent in a sophisticated way impacts your prefrontal cortex. There's actually an olfactory bulb in there that it [connects to] mood, memory, emotion,"
"We really wanted it to replicate the air of a freshwater coastline, being on a summer beach day, being in the wineries,"
"Just that fresh feeling that you have when you travel in pure Michigan in the summer."
Pure Michigan created a room and body spray capturing the scents of a Michigan summer. Fragrance developer Tanya Thompson cited lavender, beaches and wineries as prominent notes and explained that scent impacts the prefrontal cortex and connects to mood, memory and emotion. The sprays retail for $32 online. Additional seasonal fragrances named HARVEST and FIRST SNOW are planned. The tourism marketing program includes $15 million with local partners and a scratch-and-sniff panel in travel magazines. The campaign pairs scents with suggested destinations, such as Belle Isle, to encourage slow, mindful travel.
