The first full moon of 2025 is here
Briefly

The first full moon of the year, known as the Wolf Moon, appeared Sunday, with peak illumination occurring at 5:27 p.m. ET Monday.
The Wolf Moon is named for the time when wolf packs howled at the outskirts of villages, a tradition rooted in Native American culture.
The Maine Farmers' Almanac has used Native American names for the moon since the 1930s, with these names increasingly popular among the public.
During this moon cycle, the moon will pass in front of Mars, which will be at its closest and brightest on Wednesday.
