Latin American students aspiring to study in the U.S. are feeling increasingly unwelcome due to President Trump's recent policies targeting foreign students and universities. Following an order to cancel student visa interviews, many students, who once felt privileged about their opportunities, now question their place in an academic environment that seems hostile towards them. The administration’s emphasis on vocational training over traditional university education further fuels these sentiments, leaving students worried about their futures in the United States.
Many of the students who will arrive in the United States between August and September are currently in the middle of the visa process, while others have already obtained one. But with or without a visa, they all feel singled out: they are beginning to believe they are coming to study in a country where they are no longer welcome.
Of all the battles the Republican has launched in four months, the one he's waging against universities has proven the most surprising.
