Tech companies plan hundreds of Bay Area job cuts in fresh layoffs
"Google, SAP America, Advanced Pressure Technology, Oracle America and Cruise are among the latest tech companies to disclose decisions for layoffs in the Bay Area, official filings with the state Employment Development Department show. The five companies have decided to eliminate a combined total of 386 Bay Area jobs, according to the WARN notices they sent to the state EDD."
"Advanced Pressure Technology, whose products include valves, regulators and gas flow components that are often used by tech firms such as semiconductor makers, told the EDD that its layoffs were occurring as part of a permanent shutdown of its plant in Napa. Tariffs, California's rough regulatory framework, and customer losses in China and elsewhere are the big reasons for the staffing reductions, Advanced Pressure Technology said."
Hundreds of Bay Area positions are being eliminated as several tech and equipment companies file WARN notices indicating permanent layoffs. Google, SAP America, Advanced Pressure Technology, Oracle America and Cruise plan a combined 386 cuts across Sunnyvale, Palo Alto, Napa, San Francisco, Redwood City and Pleasanton with specific dates in September through December. Advanced Pressure Technology is shutting its Napa plant and cutting 237 jobs. Companies cited tariffs, California regulatory burdens, and lost customers in China and elsewhere as major reasons for reductions. All notified the state Employment Development Department that the staffing reductions are permanent.
