Ben Gulbranson completed 29 of 43 passes for 444 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Stanford's 30-29 win over San Jose State. The 444 yards rank third in Stanford history behind Davis Mills and Todd Husak. Gulbranson, a sixth-year player who enrolled after spring practice following a transfer from Oregon State, engineered an 80-yard touchdown drive in the final two minutes. He hit Caden High for 34 yards on fourth-and-10 from the Stanford 41 with 1:18 remaining. Stanford improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Gulbranson's performance followed two poor opening games.
