Carmine Faino, 61, fatally shot his neighbor, Lori Wasko, 57, in rural Pennsylvania before ambushing state troopers who arrived on the scene. The troopers, Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins, were shot while responding to reports of gunfire. The officers were also hit while in their vehicles. Both sustained serious injuries but were in stable condition. Trooper Perechinsky successfully assisted his wounded colleague and worked to prevent further danger by redirecting traffic away from the gunfire area. Police have not disclosed a motive for the shooting.
"Both troopers were in stable condition with serious injuries Wednesday night. Paris said the troopers were dispatched to check the welfare of an individual and there was additional information about shots being fired."
"Perechinsky was able to commandeer a tractor-trailer that was driving by, and he ordered the driver of that tractor-trailer to pull his semi rig across the roadway so that more people would not drive down that roadway and potentially be subjected to the fire."
