Ben Shelton continued his impressive run at Wimbledon by winning against Marton Fucsovics in straight sets. At only 22 years old, Shelton is the youngest American man to reach three major round-of-16 appearances in one year since Andy Roddick in 2004. He joined a select group of American men who have won their first three Wimbledon matches in straight sets over the last two decades. Shelton's next match will be against Italy's Lorenzo Sonego, who has spent considerably more time on the court during the tournament.
Shelton became the fourth American man in the past 20 years to win his first three Wimbledon matches in straight sets, following Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz.
Shelton, who made the semifinals of the Australian Open and fourth round at Roland Garros, is the youngest American man to make three major round-of-16 appearances in one year since Andy Roddick in 2004.
I had a lot of fun,” Shelton said of the win, which he closed out in 2 hours. “It's always special playing here at Wimbledon ... Court 1 is a special court.”
Shelton has played 6 hours and 41 minutes through three matches at the All England Club; his next opponent, Sonego, has spent 9 hours and 49 minutes on court.
