The father and sister of Capt. Daniel W. Eggers are honoring him in a different way by representing him at the sentencing trial of a former commander of enemy insurgents in Afghanistan.
The insurgent leader, Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi, admitted to commanding the fighters who planted the mine that killed Captain Eggers, acknowledging it as a war crime.
The Guantanamo Bay court considers the globe as the battlefield in the war on terrorism, but Mr. Hadi's case presents a more traditional view of warfare and combat zones.
