Nationwide protests, termed "Hands Off!", emerged against President Trump's policies, focusing on issues affecting average Americans such as health care and Social Security. Organizers from Indivisible and MoveOn aimed to address various concerns, including abortion rights and the impact of Trump's administration on daily life. By shifting from large marches to localized gatherings across all 50 states, they sought to generate stronger community engagement and response against perceived socio-economic injustices and political threats faced under the current administration.
They were against tariffs and oligarchs, dark money and fascism, the deportation of legal immigrants and the Department of Government Efficiency.
The mass action, Hands Off!, was planned at a time when many on the left have bemoaned what they see as a lack of strong resistance to President Trump.
Organizers said they hoped to shift the emphasis to pocketbook issues like health care and Social Security, with the message that President Trump is making life harder for the average American.
Instead of focusing on massive demonstrations, like the 2017 Women's March, they planned dozens of local gatherings in communities large and small.
