The federal agent who fatally shot the executive director of Little Rock’s airport during an early morning raid in March was justified in his use of force, an Arkansas prosecutor said on Friday, ruling out any charges.
Agents executed a search warrant at the home of the director, Bryan Malinowski, on suspicion of repeatedly selling guns without a license; Malinowski shot at agents, injuring one before being fatally shot himself.
The A.T.F. had been investigating Mr. Malinowski for months, suspecting illegal firearms sales, discovering he had purchased over 150 guns from 2021 to February 2024, with some sold at gun shows without a license.
Mr. Malinowski's death sparked outrage, with his family, friends, and gun-rights supporters considering the raid an overreach and ill-conceived, questioning the necessity of targeting a respected official in an early morning operation.
