Nearly 90 children were removed from the Shekinah Glory Camp in Iowa due to allegations of abuse, as per local law enforcement. The camp, part of the Kingdom Ministry of Rehab and Recreation and serving youth from Myanmar's Chin ethnic group dealing with substance abuse, was raided, resulting in youths being temporarily placed in protective custody. Despite no arrests made yet, investigations initiated after a report of child endangerment might lead to future charges against camp authorities. Ministry officials vehemently deny the allegations, complicating the situation further.
"We are expecting charges, but it will be awhile," Parker said, declining to provide more details. He said the charges may come from a state agency and not his department.
The camp serves youth from Myanmar's Chin ethnic group who are struggling with substance abuse issues, emphasizing the target demographic and potential vulnerabilities.
An investigation began after deputies received a report of 'child abuse and endangerment', prompting state and county intervention to protect the attending children.
Camp leadership has publicly denied that any abuse occurred, presenting a notable conflict between the ministry's stance and the ongoing investigation.
