Police identify man shot by South San Francisco cops
"Body-worn cameras captured Francisco-Manzo exiting an apartment at the end of a long hallway and the officers telling him to turn around and walk backward to them. Francisco-Manzo initially complied and approached the officers as instructed, but when he reached them, he pulled out a knife and brandished it, according to police. The cameras also caught officers ordering Francisco-Manzo to drop the knife and firing Tasers at him when he failed to do so."
"Police said the Tasers proved ineffective. Francisco-Manzo then moved toward the officers with the knife raised, at which point Hart and Corona opened fire, according to police. He immediately toppled to the ground. Officers provided medical aid to Francisco-Manzo until firefighters arrived to take him to an area hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition, police said. The San Mateo County District Attorney's Office is continuing to investigate the shooting."
Police identified the man shot in South San Francisco as 28-year-old Luis Francisco-Manzo, who is recovering at an area hospital. Officers Brendan Hart and Martin Corona, with eight and four-and-a-half years of experience respectively, were the shooters. Officers responded at 5:10 a.m. on Dec. 8 after Francisco-Manzo's mother reported he had taken drugs, spoken about killing himself and possessed a knife. Body-worn cameras show him exiting an apartment, initially complying with orders, then pulling a knife and brandishing it. Officers deployed Tasers that failed to stop him, and when he advanced with the knife raised Hart and Corona fired. He received medical aid and was transported in critical condition. The San Mateo County District Attorney's Office is investigating.
