Around 5 p.m. on Saturday, a man drove his black pickup truck through the glass doors of the J.C. Penney at Killeen Mall, injuring five people before being shot by police.
The driver's actions began after officers attempted to stop him for possible drunken driving, leading to his reckless maneuver through the mall, impacting several people.
Sgt. Bryan Washko stated that the injured varied in age from 6 to 75 years old, highlighting the indiscriminate nature of the incident.
Contrary to initial reports of a shooting, it was clarified that only the driver was shot by police, as authorities worked to mitigate the threat.
