"A Cessna C550 plane owned by the GB Aviation company affilitated with US racing driver Greg Biffle crashed and exploded in North Carolina on Thursday while attempting to land. The Statesville Regional Airport said the crash occurred at 10:15 a.m. local time (1515 UTC/GMT), and that officials from the Federal Aviation Administration were headed to the site. "I can confirm there were fatalities," Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell said."
"However, NASCAR and motorsport YouTuber Garret Mitchell, a friend of Biffle's who goes by the online alias Cleetus McFarland, wrote on social media that the 56-year-old and his immediate family were on board. "Unfortunately, I can confirm Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, daughter Emma, and son Ryder were on that plane because they were on their way to spend the afternoon with us. We are devastated. I'm so sorry to share this," Mitchell wrote on Facebook."

Federal Aviation Administration officials were dispatched to the site. Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell confirmed there were fatalities. Flight tracking data indicated the aircraft had just taken off and attempted to turn around and land soon after. Multiple fatalities were reported and authorities had not immediately released identities. Garret Mitchell stated Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, daughter Emma, and son Ryder were aboard. Greg Biffle recorded more than 500 NASCAR Cup races with 19 wins and 13 poles and held championships in lower NASCAR series.
