Rebecca and Jake Haro were arrested on suspicion of murder after their 7-month-old son, Emmanuel Haro, went missing on Aug. 14. Rebecca called 911 from a Big 5 Sporting Goods parking lot in Yucaipa, saying she was assaulted and knocked unconscious while changing Emmanuel's diaper and later discovered him missing. Sheriff's deputies and K-9 units searched but did not find the baby. Investigators interviewed both parents and reported inconsistencies in Rebecca's statements; she allegedly stopped an interview and refused a polygraph. Search warrants were executed at the family home and surveillance footage was obtained. The father has a prior child cruelty conviction.
Emmanuel was first reported missing on Aug. 14 after his mother called 911 from the parking of a Big 5 Sporting Goods in Yucaipa. Rebecca claimed that she was changing her child's diaper when she was physically assaulted by a stranger and knocked unconscious, the sheriff's office said. Rebecca told police that when she woke up, her son was gone. Sheriff's deputies and K-9 units searched the area but weren't able to find Emmanuel.
Since then, investigators said his parents were interviewed in connection with Emmanuel's disappearance and Rebecca had "inconsistencies" with her statements. Rebecca allegedly stopped the interview, and investigators said they were "unable to rule out foul play" at that point. Before their arrest, the parents participated in media interviews, including one with KTLA-TV in which Rebecca appeared distraught and had a black eye. The sheriff's office said it served several search warrants at the parents' home and obtained surveillance footage from "areas of interest."
