Over 5 million pools sold in the U.S., Canada under recall after reports of 9 deaths
Briefly

More than 5.2 million aboveground swimming pools sold in the U.S. and Canada are being recalled after nine reported drowning deaths. The recall impacts Bestway, Intex Recreation, and Polygroup pools with compression straps that could allow small children to access the water unattended, posing a severe risk. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has identified nine drowning incidents involving children aged 22 months to 3 years. Consumers should contact the manufacturers for a free repair kit and ensure children cannot access pools without supervision. About 5 million pools were sold in the U.S. since 2002.
The recall covers a range of Bestway, Intex Recreation and Polygroup pools that were sold by major retailers as far back as 2002.
The CPSC believes nine children across the U.S. have drowned after gaining access to these now-recalled pools in this way.
Consumers in possession of these pools are urged to immediately contact Bestway, Intex and/or Polygroup to receive a free repair kit.
Owners of these pools should ensure that small children cannot access the pool without supervision, and could alternatively drain the pool until the repair is made.
