NYPD officer fatally shoots Mott Haven man during attempted arrest - Bronx Times
Lucien Colón, 44, was shot by police during an attempted arrest in a Mott Haven apartment. Officers from the NYPD Fugitive Enforcement Unit had multiple warrants for him. Upon entering the apartment, they found Colón with a gun. He repeatedly stated he had a gun and refused to comply with commands. After 90 seconds of attempts to de-escalate, an officer shot Colón, who later died at the hospital. The incident was recorded on body cameras, with clear audio of Colón's statements.
"Deputy Chief John Wilson stated that Colón had a parole warrant and a bench warrant for failing to register as a level three New York State sex offender, highlighting the seriousness of the situation."
"Wilson emphasized that the officers showed extreme restraint and truly attempted to de-escalate the situation before the shooting occurred, indicating their efforts to avoid violence."
"The investigation will determine whether the firearm recovered at the scene was a real gun, a BB gun, or something else, raising questions about the nature of the threat posed by Colón."
