Northern lights may brighten some New Year's skies over the U.S.
Briefly

The aurora may become visible over many parts of the northern states and some of the lower Midwest to Oregon, thanks to increased solar activity.
The Sun has an eleven year activity cycle, where frequency of activity rises and falls. The year 2024 marks the peak of our current solar cycle.
If the coronal mass ejection arrives Tuesday afternoon and is strong enough, Tuesday night will be promising for aurora development.
In general, fall and spring are the best seasons for looking for northern lights in the U.S., with significant events occurring during solar peak years.
