Norfolk Southern reaches a multi-million-dollar settlement over Ohio train derailment
Briefly

Norfolk Southern will pay nearly $235 million for EPA clean-up costs, a $15 million penalty, $25 million for a community health program, and $15 million for long-term monitoring.
EPA Administrator states: 'No community should have to experience the trauma inflicted upon the residents of East Palestine... Today's enforcement action... helps prevent another disaster like this.'
Norfolk Southern agreed to pay $600 million to settle the East Palestine derailment lawsuit, including a 20-mile radius class-action settlement and a 10-mile radius personal injury settlement.
Though Norfolk Southern agreed to pay $600 million in settlements, it does not admit responsibility for the derailment or any wrongdoings.
